About Us
Classic Cellar Design is a full design-build firm that handles every phase of a wine cellar project — from the first conversation about your collection to the day we hand you the keys. That means one team, one point of contact, and full accountability for the result.
The firm was founded in 2001 by Steve Goldstein, a former sommelier whose understanding of wine and proper storage shapes every project we take on. A cellar built by Classic Cellar is not just a well-crafted room — it is an environment engineered to protect your collection for decades.
By handling cooling coordination, racking design, fabrication, and installation in-house, we maintain full control of each project. This ensures proper integration of all components and layers necessary for a successful result — and means there is never a gap between what was designed and what gets built.
We serve homeowners throughout Northern Virginia, Maryland, and Washington DC. Our clients are in McLean, Great Falls, Potomac, Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Arlington, and across the broader DC metro area. Every project is local. Every project is personal.
Our Process
Every Classic Cellar project moves through four stages — Design, On-Site Project Management, Fabrication, and Installation.
Wine Cellar Design
We start with 3D visualization and technical drawings. You see every detail of the cellar before a single board is cut — the layout, the racking configuration, the door placement, the lighting.
Onsite Project Management
We are present throughout the build — coordinating trades, and making sure the cellar that gets built is the cellar that was designed.
Custom Wine Cellar Fabrication
Cabinetry and woodwork is built in our shop. Whatever the design calls for. No offshore fabrication. No catalog components. Built by hand, built to last.
Wine Cellar Installation
Installation is performed by our own in house team fully licensed and insured. Classic Cellar holds active home improvement contractor licenses in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington DC.
